When a person comes to you for tires, repairs, brakes or other service, they expect what you worked on to function as well as it was designed to. You didn’t make the tire, nor did you choose which level in the product line was purchased. But you did perform the balancing, mounting, and installation processes. The quality of those processes IS your responsibility. The quality of your services has two key facets - objective quality and perceived quality. The higher the objective quality - the hard, measurable, documented quality of your processes, the higher the odds are of mechanical reliability in the tire and wheel system. The perceived quality is the measure of how your service quality looks and feels to the customer. Call it the “Mom Effect” - would I put my mother in the car after you worked on it? Since tires and wheels are a system, this has a serious ramification. You are as much in the wheel installation business as you are in the tire business. You must be an expert - objectively and as perceived by the customer. If your wheel installation process is not perceived as better than your competitors you are “just another tire peddler”. Does the customer have any reason but price to buy from you? Fortunately you can turn the wheel installation process into a competitive advantage - a no-nonsense business asset. Most wheel problems have as either their root cause, or a contributing cause, improper torque applied to the wheel nuts during installation. This problem is absolutely preventable. Most dealerships use either impact wrenches (with or without torque limiters) or improperly maintained torque wrenches, to apply the wheel nut torque. By using the best policies, procedures and torque tools you can differentiate your dealership and gain a competitive advantage. In addition, this will actually reduce your hard-dollar costs. We have the most soundly engineered torque management system on the market today. This system is not just hardware, it is a genuine management system with integrated intellectual, physical and procedural components. It provides serious competitive advantage to every dealer that uses it. Go to the Retail Dealer Solutions page to see the basics of this system and compare it to your dealerships’ individual needs. Then compare it to your dealerships needs for optimizing real and perceived quality and gaining the profits that result! If you want a genuine education on quality costs, quality system principles, their relationship to ROI and how they affect this process, go to our White Papers section. There you will find papers that educate you on the principles of quality engineering, processes, and their intimate relationship with profitability.
